Limits on HDS/H2S abundance ratios in hot molecular cores

چکیده
We have searched for HDS emission in a small number of hot cores. Using observations of H34 2 S, we have derived upper limits to the [HDS]/[H2S] abundance ratio. The upper limits, which are close to 10−3 can be interpreted in two ways, depending on whether grain surface reactions contribute to the formation of H2S. If grains do not dominate, then the H2S observed is formed in hot, post-shocked gas and a ratio close to the cosmic [D]/[H] ratio is expected for [HDS]/[H2S]. This scenario is consistent with our upper limits and with the relatively low abundance ratio found for [HDO]/[H2O] in hot cores but does not seem to account for all of the molecular [D]/[H] ratios observed in hot cores. If grains do dominate the formation of H2S, then the observed upper limit to the ratio is consistent with the formation of ‘hot core ices’ at a temperature of 60–80 K, close to the temperature at which cometary ices are thought to form.

Sulphur chemistry and evolution in hot cores
We compare the results of our JCMT spectral line survey of molecular gas towards ultracompact Hii regions with the predictions of models of sulphur chemistry in hot cores. We investigate the range of evolutionary models that are consistent with the observed physical conditions and chemical abundances, and see to what extent it is possible to constrain core ages by comparing abundances with the ...
متن کاملHigh-velocity Gas toward Hot Molecular Cores: Evidence for Collimated Outflows from Embedded Sources
We present observations made with the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland Association millimeter array of the H2S 2(2,0)→ 2(1,1) and CO 2→ 1 transitions toward a sample of four hot molecular cores associated with ultracompact H ii regions: G9.62+0.19, G10.47+0.03, G29.96−0.02 and G31.41+0.31. The angular resolution varies from 1.5 to 2.4 arcsec, corresponding to scales of ∼0.06 pc at the distance of the...

Context. Although few in number, high-mass stars play a major role in the interstellar energy budget and the shaping of the Galactic environment; however, the formation of high-mass stars is not well understood, because of their large distances, short time scales, and heavy extinction. Aims. The chemical composition of the massive cores forming high-mass stars can put some constraints on the ti...

متن کاملSubarcsecond Imaging of Hot Cores with Bima
We present 1.4-mm BIMA observations with subarcsecond resolution of the bright dust and molecular line emission from hot cores associated with a sample of four ultracompact H ii regions: G9.62+0.19, G10.47–0.03, G29.96– 0.02, G31.41+0.31. Density power laws can reproduce the observed continuum emission but break down on scales smaller than 2000 AU. A total of 38 transitions from 18 species are ...
